On a business park or industrial estate, the nearest lunch is a petrol station on the access road or a takeaway two roundabouts further on. Anyone without a packed lunch takes the car, and a half-hour break is then mostly spent driving and parking. Below: what a typical estate offers, and how to solve it on your own ground.
Business parks are built for lorries and units. Anyone who wants to walk out for a sandwich gets nowhere. What food there is sits on the edge: a petrol station, a takeaway, sometimes a sandwich van at set times. For a warehouse on such an estate, that is daily life; see a smart fridge for a warehouse.
After shop hours and at weekends, even that disappears. Whoever is working then has only what they brought or what is in the vending machine. What it costs when people drive off, you can work out in a business without a canteen.
| Approach | Who does the work | Outside lunchtime | Weak point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Driving off | The employee | Rarely anything open | Costs half the break |
| Sandwich van or food truck | Someone on your side collects or waits | No | Comes at set times, or not at all |
| Ordering together | A colleague | No | A daily job that keeps coming back |
| Fridge on your site | Your team or a supplier, guided by sales data | Yes, nights included | Only pays off with enough people or hours |
The bottom row is what we make, so this table is not entirely neutral.

Hot dishes to reheat, bowls and salads. Enough to replace the sandwich van entirely.
High-protein portions for people who lift and walk all day, for whom a sandwich is not enough.
Halal, kosher, vegetarian and vegan in the range, so a mixed team does not end up driving off after all.
A chilled fridge on your own site, on the route everyone walks anyway, takes the drive away. Smaller businesses on an estate often get more out of it than they expect; see a smart fridge for SMEs. A garage or dealership with waiting customers gains a second audience; see a smart fridge for car dealerships.
We deliver, install and commission the fridge; restocking is done by your team or a local supplier, so a site outside town is no obstacle for the unit itself. What the fridge costs is covered in what a smart fridge costs.
It can be discussed, but we do not promise it here. Location, access and payment then have to work for everyone. Mention it in the location check and we will look at it for your site.
For lunchtime it can be, if it turns up reliably and enough people take their break at the same moment. For the early start, the late shift and the weekend, a food truck does not help, and in bad weather or on a busy round it sometimes simply does not come. Both side by side also works: the truck for lunch, the fridge for the rest.
The rules on what an employer must provide, such as an eating area or drinking water, differ by country. Check the exact requirements with your health and safety adviser. Employers who do provide food usually do it because otherwise people drive off or do not eat.
Then the trade-off changes, and the sales show it: if people eat elsewhere, less leaves the fridge. A fridge you own can move with you; for rental or leasing, term and notice are agreed up front.
We deliver and install the fridge itself. Restocking is done by your team or a local supplier of your choice, so the question is mainly who nearby can deliver fresh food. We are happy to think that through with you on the call.
Eight short questions about your site, your people and your hours. We will tell you whether a fridge on your own ground makes the drive unnecessary.
