With a vending machine, the purchase price matters less than what comes after. What the machine is worth a year from now depends on who fills it, what it can hold and what happens to products nobody takes. Below: what to look at before you sign, for a classic machine and for a smart fridge. What you get when you buy a smart fridge from us is on the buying a smart fridge page.
Anyone who buys a vending machine also buys a workload: ordering, filling, removing what expires, keeping track of cash or payments and getting faults fixed. That work comes back every week and decides more than the machine itself whether it keeps running.
So when you get a quote, also ask who will keep the machine running afterwards. When that is the deciding factor is covered in when a smart fridge pays off.
| Question | Spiral or combi machine | Smart fridge |
|---|---|---|
| Chilling | Limited or none; dry products | Fully chilled; fresh food possible. Why that matters is covered in healthy vending |
| Payment | Coins, sometimes a card reader | Bank card, app or badge |
| Network | Varies by machine | Mobile data, no work for your IT |
| Dispensing | The product drops; jams happen | You take it out yourself and read the label first |
| Who fills it | You, or an operator | You, your caterer or a local supplier |
| What does not sell | Long shelf life, so little loss | Fresh food needs date checks |

If half of these questions go unanswered, they will come back later, and then you will have to solve them yourself.
If your people only work office hours, there is a sandwich shop round the corner and you mainly want something for the afternoon, a classic snack or combi machine does the job well. The alternatives for an office are in office snacks.
If people also work outside those hours or there is nothing to eat nearby, they want to be able to have a proper meal, and that does not work without chilling. If you resell to members or guests yourself, as a fitness club does, a smart fridge you own is often the more logical choice. What drives the cost is in what a smart fridge costs.

It can be, provided you know what you are buying. Look at the chilling, the condition of the payment module and whether parts are still available. An old machine with only a coin mechanism often needs a new payment module, and then the price difference shrinks quickly.
Rarely. A spiral machine is built to drop products, and a salad or a tub of pasta does not survive that. If you want to offer fresh food later, a chilled machine from the start is the more sensible purchase.
Not every machine needs a connection. If you want card payment or to see remotely what sells, then yes. Our smart fridges connect over mobile data and need nothing from your network.
You decide. You buy stock yourself, or have a wholesaler, your caterer or a local supplier deliver and restock, guided by sales per product.
It stays yours. It is on your balance sheet and moves with you to your new site. At the new location, look again at power, access and the route people walk.
Eight short questions about your site. We then tell you whether a classic machine will do or whether a chilled fridge is the better choice.
