Drinks machine in an office
Classic vending or a smart fridge

Drinks machine
in the office

An office usually already has coffee and a tap. What is missing is something cold, and anyone who wants a cold drink often wants something to eat with it. So the office question is usually: “do we need a separate machine for this?”

The starting point

Coffee is sorted.
Cold is not.

Almost every office floor has a coffee machine and a tap. Together they cover hot drinks and water, and there is usually little wrong with that. Even so, every day someone goes out for a can, or lukewarm water ends up on the meeting table because the store cupboard is not chilled.

A small gap like that often gets ignored for years, while it keeps irritating people. The only question is whether it is worth a whole machine, even if it is a chilled vending machine with only drinks and dairy. A separate drinks machine takes up as much space as a chilled fridge that can hold food too. In an office, it is precisely the food that makes people open it every day. How that compares with a fruit bowl or a snack drawer is covered in office snacks.

Weighing it up

When it pays off
in an office

Not every office needs this, and we would rather say so before installation than after. These signs weigh most.

Recognise three or more? Then a chilled fridge probably makes more sense than a drinks machine alone. What it costs is in the price factors. See all types side by side or go straight to the site check.

Frequently asked questions

About drinks
in the office

Do we need a drinks machine if there is already a coffee machine?

Usually not for the same purpose. The coffee machine covers hot drinks and the social break; what is missing is cold: water, soft drinks, something for the afternoon or after exercise. What we advise against is a second machine just for cans: then you give up space for a single category.

Where do you put such a machine on an office floor?

Next to the coffee corner, because people go there anyway. The second-best spot is the route between the open-plan area and the meeting rooms. A separate drinks room looks tidy on the plan, but in practice nobody walks into a room unless they have another reason to be there.

Should we offer drinks to staff for free?

That is your choice, and both happen. Some offices make water and coffee free and charge for the rest; others give a monthly budget per employee; others still charge for everything per item. With a smart fridge you set that up through access and pricing, on the same machine.

What about meetings and visitors?

In an office, that is often the deciding argument. Bottles of water and soft drinks for a meeting are usually fetched from a store cupboard that is empty at the wrong moments. In a chilled fridge they are ready and cold, and consumption is visible straight away instead of only when nothing is left.

Can food go in the same fridge?

Yes. In an office, a fridge with food usually gets opened every day, one with only drinks now and then. The same chilled fridge holds water and soft drinks next to salads, fresh meals, high-protein meal preps and halal, kosher and vegan products, depending on the producers.
